Family Friday-Tip of the Day

People often ask what baby should wear for the newborn images, and my answer is that there are many options!

When I photograph a newborn portrait session, I want to photograph your baby in some non-clothed sets, as well as swaddled sets. These are typically very simple on a blanket or covered with one and using wraps. We will create many images from a few tried-and-true newborn poses. You will be surprised the number of images from different angles we create, including close-ups, full body, and extreme close details of their little hands, feet, and face.

If there is a special outfit, please make sure the photographer knows to use it. If it is an heirloom and you want to recreate and image, please have the example available. Understand that itchy clothes make for a grumpy baby, so we might save that for the end.

I will also bring some props, like a basket or box to pose your newborn. Speaking of props, if a parent is in a job we can incorporate into the session, that is so fun. For example, a firefighter helmet. Be prepared because we will incorporate the parents in the photos as well. Please trust us as you will not regret it. Don’t forget to give yourself a manicure (or have one professionally done) before your newborn session and lather up with lotion just before we begin. That definitely goes for Dad, too! Your hands will be the co-star in a number of images.

Tip: Loosen your baby’s clothing and diaper about 30 to 60 minutes before the session! This will ensure we don’t get any clothing impressions or marks in the images.

When in doubt, keep it sweet and simple!

XOXO,

Amy
